One thing you may have heard of as a possible solution to your transmission issues is the “transmission flush.” You’re probably wondering when you may need a transmission flush, as well as wondering if you should schedule yourself for one. The signs for needing a transmission flush are the same signs of transmission trouble. The perfect time for a transmission flush is any time before your transmission breaks down. I’ll be going over some of the more obvious signs of transmission trouble, that way you’ll be able to decide if it’s the right time for one or not.
A major sign for needing a flush is when your car starts to make noises while shifting. The noise may sound like a clunk or might sound like a loud pop. Sometime it sounds like something is straight up breaking right under you. This is alarming and scary, so you should try to get it fixed a soon as possible. It makes driving extremely uncomfortable and it turns in to a hassle. Why would anyone willingly suffer through this for longer than they need to is beyond me. A transmission flush is less expensive than fixing an entire transmission, so it is definitely something to consider.
If you’re having trouble shifting into gears, then that is a sign of transmission issues. It can be annoying to dangerous, depending on how serious the issue is. Not being able to safely switch gears on the freeway is one way that this may be deemed dangerous and it may limit you to driving on the streets. Having to find alternative routes to work or school because of your transmission is something you shouldn’t have to go through, so getting a transmission flush may alleviate you from your troubles. It’s not guaranteed to completely fix your problems, but not doing anything about them definitely won’t.
You and your car experiencing surges after a shift may not be too much to handle, but it is another sign of a polluted transmission. A surge is a sudden jolt forward after your gears have switched. As long as you’re maintaining a safe distance from the car in front of you, which you should be, then it won’t be too much of an issue. It is still considered a major sign of needing a flush. Your car may also experience a backward surge. In this instance it falls backwards, because of the inconsistent flow of transmission fluid. The transmission fluid is vital for proper shifts.
The last symptom of a sick transmission is one that I hate the most. The grinding in between shifts is annoying for you, your passengers, and your car. Whenever I needed to go anywhere, I thought twice about using my own car. My friends never wanted to head out in my car and I didn’t blame them. You don’t want your car to be the reason you stay in, so definitely think about heading in for a transmission flush. It may help with most, if not all of these signs of transmission trouble.
